Rings: A Supernatural Horror Film That Fails to Live Up to Its Legacy

Rings is a 2017 American supernatural horror film and the third installment in the Ring franchise. Directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez, the movie stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, and Johnny Galecki. It follows a young woman named Julia who discovers a mysterious videotape that brings a supernatural curse upon her.

The movie begins with a young man named Holt (Alex Roe) leaving for college and leaving his girlfriend Julia (Matilda Lutz) behind. Soon after, Holt becomes interested in a strange videotape that is rumored to kill the viewer seven days after watching it. When Holt watches the tape, Julia becomes concerned and decides to watch it herself. After doing so, she receives a phone call with a voice on the other end warning her that she has seven days to live.

Julia enlists the help of Holt and a professor named Gabriel (Johnny Galecki) to try to uncover the truth about the videotape and the curse it brings. The trio uncovers a dark secret about the origins of the tape and must race against time to save themselves before it’s too late.

While Rings received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, it did have some strong elements that stood out. The cinematography, in particular, was visually striking and added to the eerie and suspenseful atmosphere of the film. The performances by the lead actors were also commendable, with Matilda Lutz delivering a solid performance as the determined and desperate Julia.

However, the movie suffered from a lackluster plot that failed to live up to the suspenseful and terrifying reputation of the Ring franchise. The jump scares and horror elements felt predictable and formulaic, lacking the originality and innovation that made the original Ring movie so successful.

Overall, Rings may be a disappointing addition to the Ring franchise, but it still has some redeeming qualities that make it worth a watch for fans of the genre. It may not be a standout horror movie, but it still offers some thrills and chills that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
